Odo Shoemaker

Thoughts of our meeting that evening filled my mind throughout the day. I occasionally stole some smiles and I looked very cheerful that day whilst at work.

I did everything in a hurry that day at the office in order not to leave any files or work on my desk which will cause me to come to the office early the next morning to clear them. Exactly so because I didn’t know when we were gonna part company that evening.

I had to be cleaning off pockets of sweat that kept forming under my chain. This was usual because I was sitting in an air conditioned room. I donno if I was jittery, tensed, relaxed or probably a mixture of one or two or a combination of all of those emotions. I kept watching my phone for the time or probably to see if I had missed a call relating to my meeting lol

The day was unusually running very slow and it was as if the hands of the clock that were supposed to be tick tocking had been held by some heavy force that prevented them from moving around the clock faster. It felt like those times when you were in a long queue for a particular service and you could see people being served but the queue never moved ahead. You wonder when at all your turn will reach.

I kept wondering when the meeting time would reach too, regardless of my mixed or combined emotions. However, like we usually say of the tortoise; regardless of its pace, it will definitely reach its destination.

I reached the meeting place and it appeared I was the first hehe.  I hanged around for a while and waited for him. Suddenly, an old friend who was a talker showed up and won’t stop talking as though the meeting was with him. I tried to show no interest in his conversation but he won’t stop and went on and on. Then I knew trouble was brewing so I had to figure out how to displace him and concentrate on my meeting. Under the pretense of buying water from a store some few meters away, I ‘eloped’ from this talker.

As I was walking towards the store, my phone rung and it was him who said that he had been around for some time but had had a lil accident.

I went over to where he was and realized that one of his slippers was misplaced and needed to be fixed – that was the lil accident lol. I searched and asked around for a shoemaker but it proved futile. I took the slippers and examined the accident to see how I could help fix it.

An idea came to mind and so I got super glue, sat down, put the slippers on my thigh and then started fixing the torn slippers. At that moment I was oblivious of whom or whatever was going on around me. I was so immersed in fixing the slippers.

After some few minutes, I gave the slippers back to him to wear because I had fixed it. I could tell from his countenance that he was surprised and wasn’t expecting that from me.

That evening as I laid on my bed and reflecting on the day’s activities, I wondered if I had really fixed those slippers. I was then surprised at myself. It then dawned on me that I had been a shoemaker lol

Well I cut myself a slack, after all there are so many things we do for love innit lol
