The friday 'Tema' Adventure
It was a beautiful Friday morning for me because my boss had
travelled out of the country and wouldn’t be at work and so I could steal some
time and be late for work. I entered my office with so much confidence and aura
of peace even though I was very late for work. I could care less because the ‘man
of the office’ had travelled. I know it’s a bad corporate attitude...lol
Some few minutes after sitting down on my seat at the office, I had
a call from Mega (as I usually call him). He asked if I was in the office and I
said yes. Then he went ahead to tell me that he was driving towards that
direction and so would pass by to say hi. Then I knew it was gonna be an
adventurous Friday for me because there is always an adventure with him.
Within some few minutes, Mega and I were planning our ‘adventure’. He
was to go to Tema to deliver a document and I saw an opportunity in going to
visit a friend at her office in Tema. The only string attached to that
opportunity was to buy fuel for the car (because my MIP friend will not move
the car unless I do so) which I did excitedly because I was gonna see a friend
whom I had actually seen not long ago though...hehe (things we do for luv). And
to make the trip exciting and with reason, I decided to buy lunch for my friend
whom I was gonna see.
Mega and I roamed about in town for a while before setting off to
Tema – he to deliver a document and I, to look for a nice place to buy lunch
for my friend even though I couldn’t get any.
It was not too long when we got to the Tema motorway amidst a lot of
conversations and laughter and excitement and expectancies (only God knows what
I was expectant for lol).
We got to a place where we needed directions because we couldn’t
locate my friend’s office and then we got a ‘good samaritan’ to direct us to
the supposed office which turned out to end all the excitement. Yeah it did end
all the excitement because it was a fake direction.
We followed the ‘good samaritan’s’ directions which brought us to a
place that looked like my friend’s office and then Mega asked that I call my
friend and tell her that I was around and so she should meet me outside the
office. I stubbornly (as he thinks I am) refused because I didn’t wanna meet my
friend without her lunch, and I pleaded with Mega to drive me around to see if I
could get a restaurant to buy the lunch for my friend.
Mega refused initially because there was a thick traffic which will
be difficult to drive around casually but after several pleadings and promises
to be a good girl to him (lol), he obliged and painfully drove me around
without finding any restaurant. He requested that I call my friend and just
meet her without the lunch but I was equally burnt on making my friend’s day
with my presence and my lunch as well and wasn’t gonna compromise on any (how
wrong I was).
After an unsuccessful roaming without getting any nice food to buy
for my friend, I gave in to Mega’s request (which was late at that time) and
sadly called my friend that I was sitting at the reception of her office and so
she should come around.
She called back after some minutes and said she couldn’t find me at
the reception. I described the place where I was sitting to her and the only
option I had at that moment was to quietly leave the building and move back to
the car where Mega was sitting in and impatiently waiting for me. The moment I got
to car, Mega became alarmed because he couldn’t feel any excitement or
happiness around me and he asked me what had happened.
My head was full of thoughts and regrets and ‘had I knowns’ that I didn’t
know what to tell him or if I should even tell him at all.
I finally gathered courage and told him that we were at a wrong
office and that my friend’s office was somewhere else....and there was silence!
That awkward silence that is usually heard after an argument has
taken place between two people...that awkward silence that you can actually
touch because you really feel it...very dense!
And as we made our journey back to Accra in that silence I could not
but wonder what was going through Mega’s mind...the wasted time?...the wasted
fuel?...my not agreeing to his suggestion which could have helped us a great
deal?...the thick traffic he had to go through to search for the food?...the
search for the food?...the thick traffic back to Accra?...or all of the above?
